Collin “Bulby” York, one of Jamaica’s veteran producers and studio engineers, released his fifth solo full-length, 5, on September 26 via Bulby York Music / VPAL Music. The 12-track project spans roots reggae, lovers rock, and dub, bringing together foundational voices with a rising generation of artists.
Across nearly four decades in the studio, York has produced or engineered music for Sean Paul, Rihanna, Madonna, No Doubt, and Beres Hammond. With 5, York continues his work behind the boards as he brings together a wide cast of collaborators.
The album balances original material with reinterpretations. Bunny Rugs contributes a version of Burning Spear’s “Marcus Garvey,” while Anthony B joins Toots Hibbert for a remake “Pomp & Pride.” Marcia Griffiths offers a new take on “Survival,” first released in 1975. “Babylon Burning” features Cocoa Tea and the album closes with “Havana Dub,” an instrumental with Sly & Robbie. Among the new recordings is “No More Time,” a lovers rock track by D’Yani.
5 follows York’s albums Time & Color (2023), Heartcrafted (2020), Master Blaster (2018), and Epic & Ting (2016).
