After months of whispers, sightings, and sonic smoke signals, LA’s most buzzed-about funk collective, Brassroots District, is officially stepping into the spotlight with the launch of Brassroots District: LA ’74 – an electrifying new immersive theater and concert residency at Jewel’s Catch One, running select nights in February and March.
Beginning February 7th, fans are invited to time-travel back to 1974 for a fully in-world experience that blurs the line between live music, immersive theater, cultural memory, and a full on party. Each night, audiences will enter a living, breathing record release party for Brassroots District’s long-awaited debut album – just as the band faces their biggest break yet: a live, on-stage record deal that could change their lives forever.
But as any Brassroots fan knows, nothing is ever that simple.
Set against the backdrop of LA’s underground funk scene and unfolding in real-time, Brassroots District: LA ’74 thrusts the audience into a moment of truth for the group’s magnetic co-leads, Ursa Major and Copper Jones. Reunited as both lovers and creative partners, the two must navigate fame, friction, and the fight to stay true to themselves – all while the dance floor keeps moving beneath them.
The immersive story is brought to life by a cast of scene-stealing characters, from their hard headed manager Nancy to Donny Davis, the A&R rep looking to make his name – not to mention Gil, Ursa’s activist brother who sees the music biz as a sellout trap. With live music, backstage encounters, and audience interaction baked into every beat, this one-of-a-kind show brings you to the very edge of a moment where myth, music, and reality collide.
