Following the release of his debut solo song, “American Fever,” JOBA shares his new song “People Need People” from his forthcoming autobiographical debut album. JOBA, né Russell Boring, the Texas born-and-raised singer, songwriter, engineer, and producer who gained notoriety as a spiritual backbone and member of the fabled rap group BROCKHAMPTON is taking another step in his solo career with “People Need People.”
The single was created alongside Rex Kudo (Post Malone, The Weeknd, Lil Uzi Vert) and Benny Bock (The Weeknd, Vince Staples). The music video that arrives with the new song is co-directed by award-winning filmmaker Matthew Castellanos (Tyler, the Creator, Steve Lacy), who also directed the “American Fever” music video for JOBA. The video explores the concept of hope and love while musing on the question of whether it’s the hope that kills you or saves you.
Speaking on “People Need People,” Boring shares: Love is conditional, or is it not? At what point do you meet the world exactly as it is? At times the world is encased in plexiglass and I exist outside. There’s nothing that’s as real as the love that’s in my mind. In March, JOBA teased his solo music with a live performance video of “American Fever” featuring a 6-piece band in the historic Valentine Studios. JOBA also kicked off the season with a free intimate show at Zebulon in March that hit capacity and had fans camping out overnight. Known for his electric performances and cutting, vulnerable lyrics during the Brockhampton era, his solo music has been highly anticipated in the aftermath of the group’s indefinite hiatus. Boring has been steadily teasing that more music is on the way, so stay tuned for more news about JOBA and his forthcoming debut album.
