In his own words: “I wanted to approach house music from a more melancholic angle” and, in this case, he fully succeeds. Working an array of smooth 4/4 beats, building synth chords, subtle grooves and laidback vocal notes in an amalgamation of sound, that will both holds its own on the peak time dancefloor, and also stand strong for those early morning sunrise sessions.
salute’s Condition I EP, featuring the smash hit “Honey”, was released earlier this year as the first in a trio of new EPs. Along with “Honey,” Condition Ialso includes “At Your Best” and “Skin”. Speaking on the EP, salute revealed: “At your best is a track I wrote on a coach going down south to London after hearing I’d lost my grandma; making it was a complete blur, but I remember wanting to make something nostalgic – hence the stark 80s references in the intro. This track brings old / new together, mirroring the relationship I had with grandma.”In addition, he explains “I made Skin with the amazing THE DIAMONDS ARE BLACK! It’s undoubtedly the most emotionally laden thing I’ve worked on in a while. It’s a personal favorite and it embodies what ‘Condition I’ is about: Memories.”
salute was born and raised Austria and moved to England in his late teens, at just 20 years old he had a landmark year in 2016 dropping his “My Heart” mini-album to plaudits from the likes of Pitchfork, Crack Magazine, and The FADER, who called it “a blitz of colorful melodies and pop vocals”. The release featured contributions from a wealth of talent salute connected within the writing process such as Leeds based artist/producer Krrum, British singer/songwriter Gabrielle Aplin, Brooklynite KAMAU and the enigmatic D.R.A.M., who teamed up with a salute on the project’s lead single “One More Chance”.
