Today, Interscope Records released Smile 2: The Skye Riley EP, a collection of songs written for Paramount Pictures’ Smile 2 and performed by Naomi Scott. Although a fictional character, Skye and her music has already amassed thousands of fans online via a viral marketing campaign, with multiple fan accounts driving the appetite for the EP.
The EP includes the singles “Grieved You” and “Blood on White Satin” plus “New Brain,” “Death Of Me” and two versions of “Just My Name.” Listen HERE. See below for track listing.
Written and directed by Parker Finn, Smile 2 is in theatres October 18. The film tells the story of global pop sensation Skye Riley. About to embark on a new world tour, she begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye must confront her dark past before her life spirals out of control. Parker Finn said, “With Skye Riley, I wanted to blur the lines between fiction and reality, to craft a pop star that felt real. We wanted the songs to be catchy and addictive and pop with a capital-P, while simultaneously crafting lyrics around the themes of her character and the film.”
Multi-Platinum songwriter/producer/artist Alexis Idarose Kesselman wrote and produced five of the six tracks found on the EP. The searing “Grieved You” was produced by Take A Daytrip and Roy Lenzo and written by David Charles Marshall Biral, Denzel Michael-Akil Baptiste, Rosario Lenzo, Tate McRae & Amy Rose Allen.
Scott co-wrote “Just My Name,” a candid reflection on the dark side of fame, and the kinetic “Death Of Me” with Kesselman. The stripped-down piano version of “Just My Name,” which is heard in the film, is included on the EP along with a second version of the song.
Naomi Scott explains, “Shaping and creating Skye and her voice was such a fun challenge for me as an actor and artist. Parker was so clear in his vision about wanting this to be a real feeling pop star, so Alexis and I worked on building a whole world around Skye. At the time, I was immersed in my own music project – so it was refreshing to step aside and write specifically for Skye. The writing process for “Death of Me” was honestly one of the highlights of the whole experience – just me and Alexis, experimenting and dancing around our mini studio set up.”
