Acclaimed synth-pop duo The Midnight — singer/songwriter Tyler Lyle and drummer/producer Tim McEwan — have released their long-awaited fifth studio album, Syndicate, out now via Ultra Records. A widescreen, 17-track journey more than two years in the making Syndicate reaffirms the band’s place as one of the most emotionally expansive and sonically imaginative forces in modern synth-pop.
Built around the band’s concept of “apocalypse pop,” Syndicate imagines beauty at the edge of ruin, blending shimmering synthwave DNA with undertones of the Cold War paranoia reframed through today’s anxieties. Across its sprawling canvas, the album threads together themes of memory, impermanence, and connection while pushing The Midnight into bold new sonic terrain.
“This is our record about loss, humility, and transcendence written in a season of desperation, between cancer treatments, in the shadow of heartbreak.” says Lyle. “Time is short, but it’s long enough if we know what to do with it.”
Produced and mixed by McEwan, the album features a dynamic roster of collaborators including Bonnie McKee (“Runaways”), Carpenter Brut (“First Night in Paris”), Jupiter Winter (“Fatal Obsession”), and multiple co-writes with Dan the Automator. Mastered by Cass Irvine (Galantis, Jax Jones), Syndicate follows a run of acclaimed singles — “Shadowverse,” “Digital Dreams,” “Chariot,” “Love Is an Ocean,” “Summer’s Ending Soon” and “Runaways (ft. Bonnie McKee)” — each offering a glimpse into the album’s expansive palette.
The release of Syndicate caps a milestone chapter for The Midnight: a sold-out 2024 North American co-headlining tour with Chromeo, headline runs across Australia and India, and the 10th anniversary of their debut EP — Days of Thunder. Now a powerhouse five-piece with Lelia Broussard (bass), Royce Whittaker (guitar), and Justin Klunk (saxophone/synth), the band delivers an immersive live show that matches the scale of their studio output. Currently on tour in the UK and EU, remaining dates are below, with the newly announced Spring 2026 North American headline tour — The Midnight: Time Machines.
With Syndicate, The Midnight embrace everything that has made them beloved while fearlessly charting new terrain — a record that feels both cinematic and urgent, nostalgic and forward-looking.
